3 Years Development – Gross Motor Skills
Gross motor (physical) skills are abilities that require whole-body movement and involve the body’s large (as core stabilizers) muscles to perform everyday actions such as standing, walking, running, and sitting upright. It also includes hand-coordination skills such as ball-playing skills (throwing, catching, hitting).
Developmental Stage
- It mimics standing on one leg.
- Mimics movements that use two limbs (like raising both arms at the same time).
- The toy climbs the ladder and steps.
- Tricycle rides a bike.
- Goes up and down stairs by changing feet.
- Jumps with both feet together.
- He walks on tiptoe.
- Captures objects using his body
Possible Situations Encountered When It Doesn’t Progress
- Difficulty using opportunities to engage in social interaction.
- Poor development of bodily awareness and movement planning abilities.
- Difficulty using toys in the playground.
- Difficulty or lack of confidence in interacting with other children in existing settings (such as parks and playgrounds).
